CK121 BA Psychology and Computing combines Psychology and Computer Science to advance understanding of people’s experience with technology. Students will broaden their understanding of the needs of technology users and will explore the potential of technology in areas such as education, and health. They will gain practical skills that will enhance their employability in the IT sector, especially in areas that are in great demand such as human-computer interaction, user experience design, usability evaluation, game design and social media, and in research aimed at developing the next generation of systems and services.
CK411 BSc Data Science and Analytics focuses on new ways to capture and understand data from the world around us, to make better decisions for people, communities and industry. It provides an education in data storage, manipulation and interpretation using mathematical sciences and computational methods to solve complex real world problems. The 1st and 2nd years of study will focus on the mathematical and computational foundations of data science and analytics. The 3rd year will include a six-month work placement which provides an opportunity to apply the skills learnt in a work place environment. In fourth year, students undertake an independent project which enables them to investigate more applied elements of the discipline. CK707 BSc Medical and Health Sciences will equip graduates to embark on careers in the medical research or healthcare sectors. It has a strong focus on research and is taught by research-active academics in a wide range of disciplines, spanning the biological and medical sciences. This course delivers up-to-date current knowledge in the field of biomedical, clinical and public health sciences. It encourages students to foster their analytical study skills and critical thinking, enabling them to research, develop and implement the innovative healthcare of the future. Years 1, 2 and 3, provide a solid grounding in the medical and health sciences. Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Sport with Business This course if the first of its kind in Ireland – a three year Hons Degree at L8 that combines sports-related modules with the development of sound business acumen. Higher Certificate in Construction Economics (Online) Programme Code: SG_CCONS_C06 Construction Economics is Level 6 Higher Certificate add-on course designed for those currently working in the construction industry who wish to develop their career. The course offers graduates a broad skills base for the management of construction projects with a strong emphasis on cost. The need for managing costs when setting up construction projects and the efficient control of labour, plant and materials throughout the project are vital in order for the successful completion within an agreed budget. The Health Professions Admission Test – Ireland (HPAT – Ireland) is an admissions test used to assist with the selection of students into medicine and health professions degree programs.
The test measures a candidate’s logical reasoning and problem solving skills as well as nonverbal reasoning and the ability to understand the thoughts, behaviour and/or intentions of people. GY128 BA (Global Languages) This innovative and highly flexible Languages degree allows you to study two languages, with the possibility of taking another language at Beginner’s Level in the First year. Linguistics, Translation Studies and Media are embedded at all levels of the programme. Literature and culture modules will be available for those students who wish to pursue a teaching career so that they will fulfil the requirements of the Teaching Council. GY129 BA (International) Studying a modern language to degree level involves spending a period, normally an academic year, in a country or region where the language is widely spoken. You will pursue both of your degree subjects during the period abroad. Students registered for two languages are required to spend a minimum of 12 weeks in each of the countries or regions where the relevant languages are spoken. This will usually consist of an academic year abroad arranged by the University in one language and a summer placement arranged by the student in the other country or region. GY130 BA (Music) This course offers a BA in Music and one other subject. It allows students to develop an understanding of the history, theory and practice of music. About Us: By Doctors for Students As newly qualified doctors and recent students, we are well placed to provide guidance to students balancing their preparations for the Leaving Certificate and the HPAT, insight into the third level study of medicine and an understanding of the myriad career opportunities available subsequent to graduation. 3. Course Content We offer a high quality course informed by our own experiences preparing for the HPAT whilst studying for our Leaving Certificates. Students participate in interactive presentations on each section, solve worked examples and receive a presentation on and ask questions about the application processes to study medicine, medicine at third level and career prospects post graduation. Students also sit a full length exam under simulated examination conditions to better prepare them for the HPAT in 2018. A detailed analysis of anonymised results is returned, enabling candidates to see not only their absolute score, but also their performance in each question and section, relative to their peers in the test taking population. 4.
