On foot of the continuing increase in the numbers of Irish students going to study in the Netherlands, a group of Dutch Research Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences are coming to Ireland in a series of events, OMG We’re Going Dutch, offering students and their families, as well as their Guidance Counsellors, the opportunity to meet the universities and Irish students who are already studying there.
The event, organised by EUNICAS (see eunicas.ie) follows other successful events , last year, attended by over 1400 students and their families. Irish students are now enrolling in Dutch research universities, following programmes in areas such as Psychology, Law, Politics, Engineering, Business, Science, Arts & Culture, and many more. They are also being increasingly attracted to the excellent Applied Universities which are more practical employment-focused institutions offering qualifications in areas such as Physiotherapy, Teaching, Business, Art & Design, IT, Hotel Management and Media Management. Though student feedback has shown that these universities expect a higher input from students than in Ireland, they are enjoying learning in a much more independent manner than is the case here, and dropout rates have proven low. Not only are these events a great opportunity to meet the universities, and discuss their programmes, but you can also meet the real experts: the Irish students who are amongst the 1000+ Irish students studying there already. You can find out about entry requirements (the Dutch universities are not all interested in Leaving Cert points), application deadlines, living in the Netherlands, the very generous Student Finance available there, as well as progression and employment opportunities.
