Sports-mad Irish teenagers have a chance to attend some of the world’s most prestigious universities, free of charge. That’s the message from David Hawkins, organiser of the Study Away event, which takes place in Dublin later this week.
The event will focus on opportunities for Irish students to undertake their third-level education abroad. While there are significant fees involved in attending many international universities, Mr. Hawkins explained those with sporting talent can often avail of scholarships that cover all tuition and living expenses during their studies abroad. “Sports scholarships offer a very exciting option for Irish students when looking at their third-level possibilities,” he said. “Scholarships are offered in a huge range of disciplines including rugby, soccer, rowing, tennis and hockey, to name a few. In fact, 50 per cent of the Irish women’s hockey team – who had such huge success in their Olympic qualifying rounds last week – attended university abroad. “At the Study Away event this Friday, we’re bringing international universities to Ireland to simplify the application process for students here, to give young people and their families an opportunity to speak with me and with universities directly to ask any questions they might have about sports scholarships, university applications, exams, interviews, deadlines, and much more.” Study Away Event The Study Away event is taking place this Friday, 15th November 2019, from 6pm to 8pm, in The Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel, Dublin. The event is free to attend and advisors from leading third-level institutions from eight different countries will be on hand to assist students with their applications and give advice and assistance to those wishing to pursue sporting careers. The Study Away event in Dublin, which is supported by Unifrog, is free to attend and is now open for registrations on www.studyaway.ie.
