The President’s Scholarship Programme 2019 encourages and rewards inspiring people who show a capacity to shape a better society. Five exceptional young students will be awarded scholarships with a total value of up to €12,000 each.
There will be one scholarship available in each of the Institute’s five discipline areas: Business, Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities and Science & Computing. Each President’s Scholar will receive a bursary of €2,000 per year of study along with €500 per semester for use on campus. The course will begin in 2019. Currently, there is a shortage of language teachers in the post-primary schools so graduates of this course will be highly sought after. The unique approach taken in this course will enable students to reach a high level of ability in Gaeilge and their chosen language enabling them to be confident and effective language teachers
Over the course of the four years, students will develop their professional knowledge and practice in how to teach languages. They will also have opportunities to achieve a high level of language proficiency not just through the course itself but through Gaeltacht internships and an Erasmus placement where they will study at a university abroad for the second half of year three.. BA in International Relations (IR) Programme (www.dcu.ie/DC231) There will be no change to the general entry requirements of the programme, but once students arrive to register, if they want to choose the Languages Stream, they will need to have achieved a Leaving Cert H4 or equivalent in the language they wish to study. Liberties College is running two free one day workshops for final year students who are hoping to study media next year. The courses are practical and hands-on in camerawork, sound and video editing, with all students getting to complete their own short film over the course of the day. The Irish Film Institute has just announced its second annual Careers In Screen Day, in association with the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival, on Thursday, February 28th. This event will once again bring an inspiring day of talks for second-level students aged 15-18 interested in pursuing a career in film or television. This year’s first guest has been confirmed as Oscar-nominated director Lenny Abrahamson.
