The Institute’s School of Business & Social Sciences is introducing two Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Humanities Joint Major degrees: one in English & Psychology, and the other in Sociology & Politics. The new three-year degree programmes will have their first intake of students in the autumn and signal a new departure for the Institute. The B.Eng (Hons) in Automation Engineering programme is a new and exciting programme launch for 2017. It is the only Level 8 Automation degree specialisation available in Dublin. The programme was launched in response to a growing demand from industry for engineers with a greater emphasis on automation, control, programming and integration with computer technology. Automation engineers with strong core mechanical engineering foundations are highly valued within the pharmaceutical, medical devices, food, mechanical and manufacturing sector as automation specialists.
Level 8 Level 8 TA225 B.Eng (Hons) in Automation Engineering The Biomedical Design degree in IT Tallaght is an innovative new programme developed to address the needsof the emergent medical technology industry. Built upon an interdisciplinary approach across engineering and science the programme will equip graduates for diverse career paths working as part of a design team with medical professionals, in hospitals, in research centres or in the manufacture of exciting new medical devices in Ireland and internationally.
Healthcare and engineering professionals work collaboratively on projects to develop innovative new ways of improving our lives. Together, they design new hip implants, contact lenses, heart stents, surgical tools, incubators, spine braces and sports fitness monitoring devices to improve our lives. The Biomedical Engineering sector employs over 24,000 people in 160 companies in Ireland. Students at IT Tallaght School of Engineering apply the design and problem solving skills studied as part of their Biomedical Design course to healthcare problems with the aim of improving the type of devices used in healthcare and also the treatments offered to patients. This course integrates the study of anatomy and physiology with the traditional engineering subjects. Project work is carried out in conjunction with industry and surgeons from Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin, Tallaght Hospital, The Mater Hospital and Santry Sports Clinic. Please note there are some places still available on our Trinity Access Programme for young adults, the entry criteria is the same as for HEAR and students who are eligible for HEAR will automatically be eligible to apply for this programme, which, on successful completion, leads to degree programmes in the Arts and Social Science Faculty in Trinity College. Students not HEAR eligible can apply for our Pre-University Arts programme which has excellent progression rates into Arts degrees in Maynooth, UCD and DCU.
