I would like to bring your attention to some very important changes to our undergraduate programme in DCU, DC238. Historically, this programme has been known as the BA in Contemporary Culture and Society, and allows students to study Culture, Media and Politics in our Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Since taking over as Chairperson, I have been working with students, staff and external stakeholders to re-structure the programme with an eye to significantly enhancing the overall offering, while still maintaining the pillars of Culture, Media and Politics. These changes include: - New modules - Improved structures and content - Increased contact hours - Opportunity to do a study Year Abroad or year-long INTRA work placement - Strong and explicit focus on transferable skills - Deeper engagement with the community and labour market - Greater focus on cultural innovation and social entrepreneurship - On-going career development activity throughout the programme These plans have now been implemented in preparation for incoming students in September 2018. Furthermore, after consultation with various internal and external stakeholders, we have just recently changed the programme title to better communicate and reflect the enhanced content. The new title is the BA in Social Sciences and Cultural Innovation. It offers students both flexibility and focus, as well as a unique suite of modules across multiple disciplines.
