The Access to Apprenticeship Programme is being developed on a pilot basis by DIT’s College of Engineering and Built Environment in partnership with J.P Morgan and ESB.Access to Apprenticeship aims to support the transition of students (16-24 years old) from areas of economic disadvantage into an apprenticeship scheme. This skills sampling programme will run in three terms of 12 weeks, each term will have 16 students, to begin in September ’17, January ’18 and April ’18. The 48 students in total will be recruited from areas of socio-economic disadvantage in Dublin and will spend 10 weeks at Dublin Institute of Technology Bolton Street. Each term will also include 2 weeks of work experience which will be provided to students by a panel of employers working in many areas of apprenticeship.
Timeline The three 12 week programmes will begin in September 2017, January 2018 and April 2018. Applications are now open for the April 2018 programme. If you like to make videos, documentaries, tell stories or write blogs, this course is for you.
This course is one third theory, practice and context, and it explores the development of media and its evolution in to the digital era. In year 3, students have a 20 week work placement and get the opportunity to work in the media industry or study abroad as an Erasmus student. Physiotherapy Game Design Business Law IT Engineering Art & Design Hotel Management Global Development Music Music & Media Management Sports Management and many more These universities are coming to Ireland in a series of events, offering students and their families the opportunity to meet the universities and Irish students who are studying there. The next events are the ‘Dutch Gateways to Employment’ events in Dublin and Cork. Though Leaving Cert or QQI students will no doubt be immersed in revision in April, they might be interested to know that many of these universities take applications into July and August. Of course, it is an ideal opportunity for 5th years and TY’s to become familiar with these options, ahead of key decisions in the coming year. At these evening events, seven of the Dutch Applied Universities will be speaking to prospective students and their families. Co-ordinated by EUNICAS www.eunicas.ie , the evenings represent a measure of the growing interest in the opportunities to study in the Netherlands. Register for these free events here, for Cork https://dutchuniscork18.eventbrite.ie or Dublin https://dutchunisdublin18.eventbrite.ie Entry requirements are reasonable – 6 passes at Leaving Cert (2 at H4 or 2 at H5): reflecting students’ right to an education in mainland Europe and sidestepping the need to obsess about Leaving Cert points. Importantly, students with a relevant QQI/FETAC Level 5 qualification qualify for degree programmes at a UAS. Tuition fees are low: Eur 2060 p.a., with a 35-year low-interest loan form the Dutch government, to pay these fees. There are other loans/grants available for living expenses. Also, if you qualify for a SUSI Maintenance Grant, you can take it with you. This all ensures that it is often less expensive to study in the Netherlands, than in Ireland. Find out more about the hands-on learning philosophy at these universities, as well as the nitty gritty of details such as finance and accommodation. So, if you want to prepare for the globalised employment markets of the next decade, these events represent a fantastic opportunity to gain an important edge. EUNiCAS will also be available at the events, to advise generally on studying in the Netherlands My name is Jenny Duffy and I am the GAA Development Officer in Maynooth University.
