On foot of the continuing increase in the numbers of Irish students going to study in the Netherlands, a group of Dutch Research Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences are coming to Ireland in a series of events, OMG We’re Going Dutch, offering students and their families, as well as their Guidance Counsellors, the opportunity to meet the universities and Irish students who are already studying there.
The event, organised by EUNICAS (see eunicas.ie) follows other successful events , last year, attended by over 1400 students and their families. Irish students are now enrolling in Dutch research universities, following programmes in areas such as Psychology, Law, Politics, Engineering, Business, Science, Arts & Culture, and many more. They are also being increasingly attracted to the excellent Applied Universities which are more practical employment-focused institutions offering qualifications in areas such as Physiotherapy, Teaching, Business, Art & Design, IT, Hotel Management and Media Management. Though student feedback has shown that these universities expect a higher input from students than in Ireland, they are enjoying learning in a much more independent manner than is the case here, and dropout rates have proven low. Not only are these events a great opportunity to meet the universities, and discuss their programmes, but you can also meet the real experts: the Irish students who are amongst the 1000+ Irish students studying there already. You can find out about entry requirements (the Dutch universities are not all interested in Leaving Cert points), application deadlines, living in the Netherlands, the very generous Student Finance available there, as well as progression and employment opportunities. Dutch universities don’t select for entry, based on Leaving Cert points. In the Netherlands, you have a right to an education if you have the minimum entry requirements (EITHER 6 passes at LC, inc 2 x H4 OR a relevant QQI Level 5). Some 90% of programmes don’t even have a selection procedure: you make the minimum entry requirements, and you are in. Even for those with a selection procedure, grades are rarely a selection criteria. There is even an entry route for students, over 21, who don’t have formal entry requirements. Tuition Fees which, at EUR2083, are already very low, can be recouped by way of an interest-free loan from the Dutch government. 15 years to repay, after you graduate. Not only can students take their SUSI Grant with them but there is further financial support from the Dutch government, though support towards Living Expenses. Dublin Open Day is approaching – 2 Scholarships await you
Dublin Open day is just around the corner, April 14th 2019. All students and their families will be able to attend our Open Day event and visit our University kiosks to hear existing students’ personal and study experiences from each university in each country. A presentation will also be given by our SME representative explaining the advantages of studying abroad. Because of the high demand, a special chapter of our presentation will be dedicated to the 4 year graduate entry. Following Dr Anil Sachdev, a graduate from a University in Romania will share his study journey and career experience. Our presentation will conclude with a Q&A session and a lucky draw where two students will win a 50% scholarship each from one of our partner Universities for the whole duration of their studies. After the presentation, the SME Team and University students will be ready to answer more queries on a personal basis. If you haven’t registered yet, click HERE.
