Now that Irish students are experiencing the quality of education in Dutch Research Universities, and the attraction of living in the Netherlands, they are turning in significant numbers to the more hands-on, employment-focused programmes, taught through English, in the Applied Universities (Universities of Applied Sciences, UAS) which offer programmes in subjects such as : Physiotherapy, Game Design, Business, Law, IT, Engineering, Art & Design, Teaching, Hotel Management, Music & Media Management, Sports Management and many more Some of these universities are coming to Ireland in a series of events, offering students and their families the opportunity to meet the universities and Irish students who are studying there. The next events are the 'Dutch Gateways to Employment' events in Dublin and Cork. Though Leaving Cert or QQI students will no doubt be immersed in revision in April, they might be interested to know that many of these universities take applications into July and August. Of course, it is an ideal opportunity for 5th years and TY's to become familiar with these options, ahead of key decisions in the coming year. Importantly, students with a relevant QQI/FETAC Level 5 qualification qualify for degree programmes at a UAS. Tuition fees are low: Eur 2060 p.a., with a 35-year low-interest loan form the Dutch government, to pay these fees. There are other loans/grants available for living expenses. Also, if you qualify for a SUSI Maintenance Grant, you can take it with you. This all ensures that it is often less expensive to study in the Netherlands, than in Ireland. ( exact place will be announced on 10th March, during our Open Day in Dublin ) There are now over 1000 Irish students registered on degree programmes, taught through English, in Dutch universities. Our top players will be regularly playing in front of big crowds and featuring in games broadcast on National TV or streamed live on the internet for family/friends to watch back home. A soccer scholarship can cover up to 100% of the cost of university. That is not just the cost of tuition, but also the cost of accommodation and food as well! At the Assessment Trial, players will be given an indication of Soccer Scholarship potential to help them decide whether or not this avenue is suited to their family background. There will also be a presentation covering all aspects of gaining a scholarship in the USA as well as the opportunity for players/parents to ask any questions about the process. Successful candidates will be invited into the PASS4Soccer Network and have the opportunity to play in our highly attended US Coach Showcase in December.
